Marijuana

Reputation. Leadership. Commitment.

For the discerning client, Green Light Law Group has become the Pacific Northwest’s preeminent cannabis law firm. Green Light lawyers are well-respected in the cannabis industry and legal community because of our reputation for effectiveness, our long-standing commitment to cannabis stakeholders, and our industry leadership in times of crisis. When the Oregon Liquor Control Commission moved to ban botanical terpenes added to vape cartridges, Green Light was there as the go-to law firm for an organized industry and provided a quick, effective response, which had the effect of striking down the ban, saving companies and jobs, and preserving consumer choice. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, it was Green Light lawyers, along with industry groups and other industry lawyers, who led the effort to lobby the OLCC and worked collaboratively to institute temporary rules to ensure continued access to recreational cannabis for locked-down Oregonians.

Green Light lawyers are often sought out for a second opinion, or to repair the mistakes and missteps of prior counsel, particularly in matters involving sales of OLCC-licensed businesses, and administrative litigation such as license revocation proceedings. The firm’s lawyers have been consistently engaged in contested administrative proceedings involving OLCC licenses, including license revocation proceedings, since the OLCC first began enforcing cannabis regulations. For example, we represented the respondent in the first reported hearing involving OLCC-regulated cannabis: a proposed license denial after a failed background check (and yes, our client in that case now has a license and operates a very successful retail store). Also, because we firmly believe there is no substitute for experience, our staff also includes team members who hold marijuana workers permits, and who have worked as executives in Oregon cannabis companies.

Green Light lawyers serve in leadership roles in various national and local cannabis organizations and industry groups. Our partners have served on the Executive Committee of the Oregon State Bar Cannabis Law Section since its inception, including Perry Salzhauer’s term as 2019 chairperson, and Andrew DeWeese’s role as co-founder of the section and 2020 chairperson. Brad Blommer served as the Vice President of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Hemp Industries Association. Andrew DeWeese also serves as general counsel for Smart Cannabis, the company which powers the annual Cultivation Classic, the world’s most scientifically rigorous competition for craft cannabis.
